CareProvider Spotlight

What made you become a caregiver, and how has it changed your view of caring for others?

“I became a caregiver when my grandmother became bedridden. My cousin and I were the ones who took care of her every day, and that experience opened my eyes to what real caregiving means. It taught me that caring for someone is not just a task – it’s patience, compassion, and presence. It changed the way I see people who need support, and it made me appreciate the dignity and humanity behind every act of care.”

Can you share a powerful moment from your caregiving experience?

“During my placement, I saw how my residents’ faces lit up when I cared for them, talked to them, or simply showed them kindness. That genuine happiness created a fulfilling feeling inside me something I didn’t expect. It made me realize that caregiving is more than a role; it’s a meaningful way to touch someone’s life.”

What are the biggest challenges caregivers face, and how can we support them better?

“One of the biggest challenges caregivers face is that every resident has different needs, preferences, and levels of ability. You have to constantly adapt whether it’s your approach, your communication style, or the pace of care to make sure each person feels safe, respected, and supported. Caregiving requires patience, flexibility, and understanding, and we can support caregivers better by recognizing the complexity of their work and valuing the skills they bring to every interaction.”

How can we make people more aware of the crucial role caregivers play in society?

“Awareness starts with education and visibility. Sharing real stories, highlighting the emotional and physical demands of caregiving, and recognizing caregivers publicly can help people understand how essential this work is. When society sees the impact caregivers make, respect and support naturally follow.”

What improvements would you like to see in caregiving in the future?

“In the future, I would like to see improvements that support the reality that every resident has unique needs. Caregiving requires constant adaptation adjusting our approach, communication, and pace for each individual. Because of this, I hope to see more training opportunities that help caregivers build these skills, better working conditions that allow us to provide person‑centered care, and stronger emotional support systems. Most importantly, I want caregiving to be recognized and respected as a skilled, meaningful profession, not just a task-based job.”
