For January’s CareProvider Spotlight, we are proud to highlight Phybbles. Some caregivers go above and beyond every day, quietly making a difference without seeking recognition. Phybbles is one of those people. She started caregiving to support herself through school, but over time, she grew to see the role as a responsibility that demands patience, empathy, and consistency.
What makes Phybbles stand out isn’t just her work ethic, it’s her commitment to her patients. Even on days when she isn’t feeling well, she completes her shifts. During the Christmas season, she steps in to cover shifts because her patients always come first. She does it not because she has to, but because she genuinely cares, and that dedication is what makes her shine as a CareProvider.

What made you become a caregiver, and how has it changed your view of caring for others?
“Becoming a caregiver was not something I originally planned when I came to Canada. I accepted my first caregiving job mainly out of necessity, to pay my tuition fees while I was in college and to sustain my daily living. At first, it felt like just a job, but over time, caregiving slowly grew in me. Being responsible for someone else’s well-being made me realize that caring goes far beyond physical tasks. It requires patience, empathy, emotional strength, and genuine compassion. This experience changed my view of caring for others by teaching me that true care means showing up consistently, even when it is difficult.”
Can you share a powerful moment from your caregiving experience?
“One powerful moment in my caregiving journey is when clients express their appreciation by saying things like “you’re great,” “excellent,” or “professional.” Hearing these words, especially after challenging shifts, truly empowers me and motivates me to do more. It reassures me that my efforts are seen and valued. In moments when the work feels demanding, those affirmations remind me why caregiving matters and encourage me to continue providing high-quality care.”
What are the biggest challenges caregivers face, and how can we support them better?
“One of the biggest challenges caregivers face is managing emotional and physical demands. Supporting clients with diverse needs and behaviors requires patience, resilience, and consistent focus. Caregivers often place the needs of others before their own, which can be exhausting over time. Caregivers can be better supported through appropriate staffing, access to training, wellness resources, and a workplace culture that values open communication and recognition. Feeling supported and appreciated helps caregivers remain engaged and committed in their roles.”
How can we make people more aware of the crucial role caregivers play in society?
“Awareness can be strengthened by sharing real experiences and highlighting the meaningful contributions caregivers make every day. Education, community engagement, and positive representation can help people better understand the responsibility and dedication required in caregiving. When caregivers are recognized as essential members of the care team, it fosters greater respect and appreciation for the profession.”
What improvements would you like to see in caregiving in the future?
“In the future, I would like to see continued improvements in working conditions, access to ongoing professional development, and strong support systems for caregivers. Additional training opportunities and resources to help manage challenging situations would further enhance the quality of care provided. Most importantly, maintaining a respectful and supportive environment allows caregivers to feel valued, confident, and empowered to deliver compassionate and professional care.”
