CareProvider Spotlight: December 2025

Some people become caregivers because the job is needed. Others stay because their heart never lets them walk away.

Hana’s caregiving journey began during a time of uncertainty, when she was searching for work and found her way into a field that Canada deeply needs. But what truly kept her here goes much deeper. Even as a child, Hana found joy in helping others. Being useful, being present, being kind, that feeling stayed with her.

Like many caregivers, she questioned herself at the start. Is this the right path? But with every skill she learned, every client she supported, and every moment of gratitude she received, the answer became clearer. Caregiving wasn’t just work, it was preparation for life, for caring for loved ones, and for becoming better every day.

This spotlight is for Hana, not only because she shows up consistently, but because she shows up fully. Whether it’s stepping in during sick calls, covering urgent leave, or bringing calm to clients who see her as family, Hana carries care with humility, courage, and heart.

What made you become a caregiver, and how has it changed your view of caring for others?

“Before becoming a caregiver, I was struggling to find a job and then a friend told me to learn caregiver because that field is needed everywhere in Canada. Besides, when I was a little kid, I like to help people, I felt happy when I can be helpful to somebody. That is the other reason why I chose to be a caregiver. At the beginning, sometimes I doubted myself like is it the right path for me? Then I realize all of the skills I learnt will help me in the future to take care of my love ones. And I always keep it in my mind to do my job better everyday.”

Can you share a powerful moment from your caregiving experience?

“It is hard to say “powerful” but I feel great when my residents/ clients say thank or show their care to me. Some of them saw me like their children or grandchildren and at that time I honestly realized I chose the right path. “

What are the biggest challenges caregivers face, and how can we support them better?

“There are lots of challenges for caregiver but in my opinion, the biggest challenge is manage my emotional and mental strain when I was scared and stress as facing of difficult clients. I used to scare of handle behaviour clients as I doubted myself, or I scared of getting hurt… And I was lucky because I have good training with coworkers. I learnt how not to escalate the situation, I learnt how to relieve the stress from workplace and how to protect myself and clients. I am sure all caregivers learnt them from school but it is helpful when caregivers will have at least online training after an amount of time.”

How can we make people more aware of the crucial role caregivers play in society?

“To raise awareness about caregivers’ crucial role, I think we need public campaigns highlighting their vital role, promoting open conversations to reduce stigma, advocating for supportive policies (like paid leave & respite), educating employers and communities, and encouraging practical help (listening, taking tasks, offering breaks) to combat isolation and burnout, ultimately building a system that values caregivers as core healthcare contributors.”

What improvements would you like to see in caregiving in the future?

“Empowering caregivers with better training, flexible schedules, and creating more person-centered, community-based, and accessible care models that enhance dignity, independence, and overall quality of life for care recipients. Enhancing social support, and advocating for fair wages and better work-life balance for caregivers.”
